As I sit in my office typing this blog, it's 85° in Bethlehem. 85° means you want to be outside and rightfully so. That also means you want to take your furry friend with you!
DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE AMPLE AMOUNTS OF WATER FOR YOU BOTH!!!
I don't know about you, but I love orange Gatorade. Gatorade is great to replace YOUR electrolytes, however, it can be toxic to dogs in large amounts. Giving your dog a sip of Gatorade is not bad, however, giving Gatorade in excess amounts, to your dog, is toxic!
Gatorade contains, not only the electrolytes, but high amounts of sugar, sodium and artificial flavors. All of those are bad for dogs!
Bottom line...when it comes to rehydrating your dog...water is BEST! Be sure to take along ice cold water, water bottles, and a clean water dish! Be sure to take lots of breaks and allow your dog to rest for a bit before continuing your hike or walk!
Also, keep in mind your dog's activity level. Again, I wouldn't take my pug on a 2 mile hike, like I do with a client's black lab.
DO NOT LET YOUR DOG DRINK OUT OF A POOL OR LAKE OR FOREIGN BODY OF WATER!
Enjoy the outdoors with your dog and be safe!
